Japan Trip
I just returned from a short trip to Japan. During my stay, I was able to experince many things that I shared with the classes. This week we have been talking about the geography, religion, language, clothing, education, products, and food of Japan. I took many pictures relating to these topics and shared them with the students. The kids even got to try some Japanese food! Yum!

Meso-American Idol
By Annie Fletcher
You know how you had those dreams and fantasies of being a singer, rock star, or maybe even the next Michael Jackson? Don’t deny it, because we all go through that stage at one point or another. For some it lasts all of 5 minutes, but for others it can last for 5 years. But
how many of us get to live that dream?
In Social Studies a few weeks ago, we got to feel that fame for a few seconds in front of our classmates. We all picked cards and who ever had the same card, that’s who was in your group. The groups all had the job of making up lyrics to a song, weather it be a familiar classic, one on the radio, or a totally original tune. The song had to be about Maya, Aztec, or Inca civilizations. Most bands got really creative, one changing “Somebody call 911, shorties fire burning on the dance floor” to “Somebody call 911 there’s an Inca lying on the floor”. We even had a Single Ladies song.
In this picture though you see 4 students including Austin Bristow, Alana George, Josh Houchins, and Annie Fletcher (me). Our band was called “Maya Mayhem”, and we made up words to Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face”. In our song we had to include the location of the
civilization, what they traded, occupations religions, architecture, and achievements. In our society, where music plays a big role, this was a great opportunity. We got to have fun and be creative, while still learning. It was hilarious to listen to, but also gave us a chance to be confident and be educated about ancient Central American cultures. We even had a Simon Cowell (Halley Strevell) who tried to talk in a British accent, a Randy Jackson (Austin Bristow) who had a strange resemblance, and a Paula Abdul (me) who said “Your going to Hollywood!!!!” to every band.
So thanks Mrs.Keeran for giving us our 15 seconds of fame. WORD!
